My grandpa died from cancer long ago, can it be genetic?

He died before I was born but my dad said that he ate an apple that was growing near Chernobyl after the incident (the nuclear meltdown) in 1986. And they were driving by Chernobyl 20 KM away, and there were these huge apples on a tree, so my dad's dad took some and ate some. He died 2 years later of cancer, could it be because of the apples?
